Lincoln, Placer County
Lincoln was laid out in 1859 and named for Charles Lincoln Wilson, a promoter of the California Central Railroad. In 1875 the firm of Gladding, McBean began digging the local clay to make sewer pipe and then architectural terra cotta, which decorates landmark buildings across the West. The plant is still in business on the north side of downtown.
